Light Up for Art!


RULES & REGULATIONS
Light Up For Art! is a project by the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Arts (MICA), supported by the Land Transport Authority (LTA), to inject greater visual vibrancy to Singapore’s civic district and develop it into a world class arts and cultural district, while showcasing the talents of our young Singaporean artists.
The project involves getting young artists from participating schools, Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) and School of the Arts (SOTA), to produce artwork designs which convey the theme of “Singapore – A World Class Cultural and Entertainment Capital” which would be printed onto adhesive film layers for installation onto designated lamp posts within the civic district.
Eligibility
1. This competition is open to students who are enrolled at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) or the School of the Arts (SOTA), Singapore.
(Note: Interested students are advised to check with their respective school coordinators listed at paragraph 10 below for more information on the respective school’s arrangements for its students’ participation.)
Artwork Requirements
2. The artwork submitted for the competition must relate to the theme of “Singapore - A World Class Cultural and Entertainment Capital”.
3. Each entry must be the original and unpublished work of the participant and should not have been submitted for any other competition.
4. Entries submitted may be individual or group entries. Each participant may submit one or more entries.
5. The artwork submitted can be in any medium, including without limitation, drawings, illustrations, paintings and digital art.
6. The artwork submitted must be appropriate for viewing by the public and suitable for painting onto the lower section of the lamp post.
(Note: The approximate dimensions of the section of lamp post to be painted are provided in the figure shown here, not drawn to scale.)
7. All entries must be submitted in hard-copy in 2-dimensional format, and not larger than A3 size.
8. Each entry must be accompanied by the enclosed entry form and indemnity form for each participant, duly completed and signed. Click here to download the form.
Submission Requirements
9. The closing date and time for this competition is 3 July 2009, 12 noon. Late entries will not be accepted.
10. All entries must reach the respective school coordinators by the closing date and time. The school coordinators are:

Judging
11. All entries will be judged on the following criteria:
a) Originality and creativity;
b) Aesthetics and vibrancy; and
c) Interpretation and articulation of the theme “Singapore - A World Class Cultural and Entertainment Capital”.
12. The judges reserve the right to disqualify at any time any entry which has been previously published, entered in other competitions, or which infringes third-party intellectual property rights.
13. The judges’ decisions are final. The organisers and the judges are not obliged to provide any reasons or enter into any discussion or correspondence relating to these rules and regulations, the organisation of the competition, or any of the judges’ decisions.
Results and Prizes
14. Four winning entries from each school will be selected to be printed onto the adhesive film layers for installation onto the lamp posts. Each winning entry will receive a cash prize of $200.
15. All prize winners will be notified through their respective schools in October 2009. The results will also be announced on the competition website at www.mica.gov.sg/lightupforart.
Lamp Post Design
16. Winning designs would be digitally manipulated and printed onto the adhesive film for installation onto designated lamp posts in the civic district for display for approximately 6 months.
17. Organisers reserve the right to forfeit the prize award in full in the event that any entry is disqualified after the results have been announced, or of any failure to satisfactorily ensure the artwork design is suitable for printing onto the adhesive film layers to be installed on the lamp posts.
Others
18. The organisers reserve the absolute right and discretion to decide any issue(s) not expressly covered in the rules and regulations, and such decision shall be binding.
19. The organisers reserve the right to amend these rules and regulations at any time, without prior notice, and in any manner it deems fit. Any amendments to these rules and regulations shall be posted on the competition website before the closing date and shall be deemed sufficient notice of such amendments to all participants.
20. The organisers assume no responsibility for lost, late, damaged, misdirected or illegible entries. Entries, once submitted, shall become the property of the organisers (including entries which are disqualified). The organisers shall not be obliged to return any entry to any participant.
21. All intellectual property rights subsisting in each entry shall vest in the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Arts.
22. Any participant who is younger than 21 years old is required to obtain his/her parent/guardian’s consent on the entry form. By submitting an entry into this competition, each participant and his/her parent/guardian shall be deemed to have accepted and agreed to be bound by these rules and regulations, including any amendments made pursuant to paragraph 21 above.
