Inaugural FM service for Radio Singapura
“It is primarily with this object in mind…to reach into the homes of these people with a high quality interference-free service that Radio Singapura is now providing the FM Service.”
Director of Broadcasting
17 July 1967
The FM Service for Radio Singapura was inaugurated on 17 July 1967 by Radio-Television Singapore (RTS) as an increase in construction of high-rise buildings subsequently led to a negative impact on the reception of AM broadcasts. Four FM radio stations were established by the 1970s.
Radio Singapura provided a 4-channel service on the medium wave, FM and shortwave bands. Each channel operated for 14-18 hours daily between 0600 hours and 2400 hours. The station provided a domestic broadcasting service to nearly two million people and also reached others outside the Republic through shortwave transmissions.
