Singapore Sports Council

Singapore Sports Council

On 1st October 1973, the Singapore Promotion Board and the National Stadium Corporation merged to form the Singapore Sports Council.

The chief aim of the Council was to develop and promote “Sports For All” and provide opportunities for every member of society to engage in some form of sports or physical recreation throughout his or her life.

The government regarded sports as a lifelong social investment that would build a fit and healthy nation. Hence, energies were directed to the education and involvement of the masses in the regular participation of wholesome forms of physical activities such as jogging, walking and swimming.

SSC also provided assistance to the development of local sports talent. Being mindful about Singapore’s constraint of small size and population, SSC pushed ahead with sports training schemes to provide a systematic and accessible approach for improving the skills of aspiring sports talent.
