Institution of Patron of the Arts Award
The Patron of the Arts Award was instituted in 1983 in recognition of the financial contributions made by business organisations and public or private institutions towards the promotion of cultural and artistic activities in Singapore.
The four recipients of the 1983 Patron of the Arts Award were Mobile Oil Singapore Pte Ltd, Singapore Airlines Ltd, the Singapore Tourism Board and the Singapore Turf Club.
Since then, other arts awards include 1986’s institution of the ‘Friend of the Arts’ Award, to recognise individuals and organisations which have contributed between $100,000 and $299,999, and the ‘Associate of the Arts’ Award to recognise individuals and organisations which have contributed between $50,000 and $99,999. The ‘Arts Supporter’ Award was instituted in 2000 to recognise individuals and organisations which have contributed between $10,000 and $49,999.
