Introduction of Young Artist Award (1992)

Conferred by the National Arts Council, the Young Artist Award was first introduced in 1992, with the aim of boosting the growth of artistic talent in Singapore. This award recognises artists under 35 years old who demonstrate promise of artistic excellence in the fields of literary arts, performing arts, visual arts and film. In response to the increasingly overlapping boundaries of arts practices and disciplines, artists in popular music, technical theatre and multi-media art have also been considered at the award deliberation.

The award takes the form of a grant of up to $10,000, allowing award winners to embark on arts or arts-related projects, or to further their studies locally and overseas Some examples of the Young Artist Award recipients are Noni Kaur, S. Chandrasekaran, Ken Seet and Raymond Lau.
